It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to my cluttered and unruly website. This is my hobby but I'll deal with you in the most prompt, honest and businesslike manner I can. This site enables me to share with you the truly evocative signs from London's famous transport system that I grew up with all too many decades ago! None are in use today, many go back to the late 1960's. The picture below shows how lovely a selection of these delightful items look once framed. These make superb and entirely unique gifts that will last a lifetime. My awful photography does them no justice at all. Here and there a few have crept in from outside London that may well have some amusement value in the right setting. Please note that the images below are not to scale, nor does their poor focus show them as crisp as they really are. I've kept the pictures as small as I can so this site doesn't take a week to load! Dimensions are shown.

London Underground Temporary Station Signs.

We'll start off with the white on blue signs shown below. These are temporary station signs used when stations were being repaired where the 'static' signs might be obscured or were being replaced. These would be pasted onto safety shuttering or hoardings so people knew where they were. All of these signs are very rare but some even more so. There's no TRAFALGAR SQUARE or ALDWICH stations now, the former being renamed in 1979, the latter closing in 1994. The larger ones are approx 32 x 5", the medium ones 21 x 4" approx. These date back at least 20 - 30 years, probably more. A few of each are available. These are amazing once framed. Large size: £18. Medium £17. Worldwide P&P is included.

Front of Train Destination Signs

Originally double-sided enamel signs were used on the front of 1938 stock trains, there's a picture of an original below which is available. These proved expensive to replace through wear and tear so these printed PVC self-adhesive signs were laid over the originals, please see the picture of a 1938 stock train displaying them. Approx 21 x 4" and unused. Very rare too. Some bear evidence of adhesive on their faces where they've been stored in warm tunnels for decades. £17 each inc worldwide P&P.

Who buys these signs and why?

Enthusiasts and collectors add to what they may already have. People that used to live in London, now scattered worldwide, buy them as a reminder of their happy times here. Company directors have bought them for display in reception areas and board rooms. Others have bought them for their friends as probably the most novel gift anyone could think of. Some folks have bought them for their rarity value as once they've gone, there are no more. Some are decades old and many show stations and routes that were dropped many years ago.
