“The signs arrived this morning. Really pleased with them and great to do business with you”. Kind Regards, GM.

“I just wanted to confirm that I received the Bayswater sign. It is just as fabulous as the others, and I can't wait to get it framed and give it to my mother for her birthday. She will be thrilled”. Thank you again! E.

I've unearthed a few extremely interesting London Transport Staff Magazines  from the late 1960's to early 1970's. These heavily illustrated magazines clearly show the 'family feel' of how London Transport used to be all those years ago. My Mother & Father were Bus Conductors [during and after WW2 respectively] and they both used to recall those days with great warmth. L.T’s outside activities included a boating club, bowls, football and cricket clubs and even an aero club with [I understand] it’s own trainer aircraft! These are full of  nostalgia being from an era when I was using Routemaster & RT buses to go to school in North London. It's also nice to see the 1970's London street scenes too showing vehicles then in daily use that now star at Classic Car shows!

These lovely old magazines give a great insight into the development and daily life of London Transport and London Underground. For example: Some show the Piccadilly Line extension being built out to Heathrow Airport, others feature what's happening regarding new buses, 'The 100th Routemaster' for example, [sorry that issue now sold], staff members histories and stories, more stories from  London Transport's own workshops, depots and garages, retirements, sports activities etc etc. Many many pictures in each of these extremely interesting and well presented magazines. £5 - £10 each inc P&P.

1979 & 1982 Central Line Timetables. When Epping -Ongar was fully open with 26 trains daily! £12 each.

The above sign is the ONLY reproduction I have but I’ve included it  as I feel it gives some idea of what ordinary people had to go through just to get to work 70 years ago.

Left. RED ROVER tickets from the 1960’s & 1970’s. I also have some from the  1960’s that are unstamped.  £3 each.

From London Transport Railways Archives.             Traffic Circulars, bound volumes for:

1937, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1944, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950 & 1951

These heavy London Transport Railways yearly bound volumes of Traffic Circulars will have the serious collector absolutely enthralled. Everything that staff had to know is here. 770 - nearly 1400 pages in each one depending on the year. Many have diagrams. Details of Ballast Train working, Rail Grinding Trains, Black Out times and pleasure travel to restricted areas for the war years, staff vacancies, test train activities, special current arrangements, engineers possession, current rail conductivity tests, signal alterations, testing of regenerative brake, Metadyne Stock, stabling and starting arrangements, engineering works across all lines, composition of engineers trains, where it’s engine will come from and return to, ‘wrong way’ working, theft reports, despatch arrangements for Traffic Auditors correspondence, ticket bags, wages bags and so very much more. Serious offers invited.

The term ‘Genuine Copy’ I’m going to use for the drawings below might sound a bit odd but that’s what they really are, genuine copies made by London Transport of design drawings of the Front Entrance Routemaster [front engined], the Routemaster Coach [RMC used by Green Line Country Buses] and the Front Entrance rear engined Routemaster of which only one was made. [FRM1]. Hindsight has shown what a disastrous decision it was to not put FRM’s into production. These diagrams are 23” x 16” and as said, originate from London Transport, not a copy shop! My photos don’t show them at their best, no change there I’m afraid but it’s fair to say they are a little faded but perfectly readable. Wonderful and fascinating pieces of London Transport Buses history. A unique gift for a Routemaster enthusiast. £25 each.
